Album Review - GHØSTKID - Hollywood Suicide

Wow, this is not an album that I expected to like so much. I had heard of the band but not paid much attention to them, something that I now deeply regret because this is an amazing album!!

Hollywood Suicide

Ok, complete honesty (as always), the start of this song had me leaning back in my seat asking "what the fuck is this?" but by the end of the song, I was frigging loving it. Out of all the songs on this album, this is the best song to start the album with because it's so in your face.

S3x

One of my favourite songs on this album, it's slow and moody but I can't get enough of it. It sounds striped down music wise at first but then there is a face melting guitar solo that comes out of nowhere. Love the lyrics "I keep having sex with your soul and nothings gonna take away the pain away".

FSU

I love so many things about this song, the constantly drum beat, the screaming, the gruff singing, the shredding guitars, the catchy chorus and the fact it has me moving from the second it starts.

Heavy Rain

I love the vocals on this track, they are quite emotional, I can almost feel the pain. It's a very theatrical sounding song, it's very dramatic so it grabs your attention, demanding that you stop what you are doing to listen to it until he very end.

Valerie

The only word I can pick to describe this song is haunting. It's a short song but it leaves an impression with its very deep gruff vocals in the verses and softer, lighter vocals on the chorus. I don't know what exactly happened to the person who wrote it but I want to give them a big hug and a big ass bottle of vodka.

Black Cloud

This would be the prefect song for the band to come out on stage to, starts off quiet, sounds like clapping and then boom! There they are screaming in your face with a force that forces you backwards.

Ugly

This is a slower one compared to the other songs but it still brilliant. Some awesome screaming going on with lyrics like "come on keep draining me, feeling inferiority is giving me anxiety, will I ever be good enough to fit your frame? People never gonna change, cause poeple are ugly"

Blood

I really hope this song gets played live because it is such an awesome mosh pit song. The beat goes from absolute mental to slow, like they are giving people a little break for 2 seconds and then goes mental again. This is the song that I didn't know I needed in my life.

Murder Feat Inhuman

You know that part in a film when the super sexy bad guy walks in, everyone turns to look at him as a killer song starts and the whole mood changes? This could be that song. If it was a person, they would be stood in front of you screaming in your face and you would be shitting yourself. It's so in your face, the double base drum sounds frigging amazing and the screaming just completes it. FAVOURITE SONG ON THE ALBUM!!!!

Dahlia

I wasn't sure how to interpret this song when I first heard it, I thought that it was just about depression and if anyone would notice if they just disappeared one day. After listening to it some more, I feel like it's more about walking away from a situation or fame and who would still be there for them.

The lyrics that really got me were:-

Still on my feet but I'm dying alive.

Tragedy behind a wall of success

Let's make a bet

Who's gonna miss me?

Who's staying with me?

It's a brilliant song, one of the best on the album.

Helena Drive

This is a slower and quite emotional song touching on depression, self harm and drug use. The feeling that no one will understand enough to help so "she's putting on her makeup to cover the scars, still perfect on the outside, she's dying on the inside".

These guys will be coming to the UK soon supporting Blind Channel on the Exit Emotions tour so get your tickets here now to check them out live!!

Gig Review - Sons Of Liberty - The Carlisle - 7/3/24

I have to admit, these guys have a very special place in my heart because they are just so frigging awesome. They are the nicest guys you will ever meet and have the best positive, hyped up vibe!

I love that this was a small gig because it meant the band could interact with the crowd and we all had a brilliant time feeling so involved. Russ was chatting to the crowd between songs (while the rest were tuning guitars lol) and making us all laugh. He would make jokes about the next song being "Tune To E".

The energy that these guys give off on stage is infectious, everyone was so happy singing along and dancing. They always look so happy up on stage, they really do love what they do.

I have to make a point of saying how much I love Fred when he is getting into what he is playing. There needs to be a fan club just for Fred's facial expressions because he is just so happy and really into what he is playing that he is pulling all sorts of faces.

Just before Beef Jerky Boogie, I was standing on Fred's side of the stage between the bar and the stage, trying to get some pictures of Steve the drummer. When the barman banged loudly on the bar next to me and when I looked round, Russ was getting up on the bar and walking down it to the other end. He got the whole crowd to crouch down, which is when he asked the barman "can you see my arse crack?" And then he did a counted everyone in to jump up and around to the beginning of the song.

I did distract poor Russ at one point. I was trying to take a picture of him and he cheekily flipped me his finger finger. I pretended to be shocked but my acting was bette
r than I thought because he looked a bit worried and said "not really", so he lost his place in the song for a second. Sorry Russ, love you xxxx

The end of the night came far too soon and before I knew it, it was the last song and we were all pretending that there wasn't an encore lol. The band did a great job of walking to the back of the stage like we couldn't see them only to come back out again.

When it was all over, the whole band came out to the merch table to speak to everyone and have pictures. I think it's brilliant when a band is able to do this because it's giving something special to the fans.

I fangirled quite a bit. Fred flicked his guitar pick to me and like one of the seagulls from Find Nemo, I scream "mine mine mine" trying to find it after it bounced out my hand and onto the bar lol. Then I asked Steve if I could have his set list and got everyone to sign it. I'd already got a band shirt and one of their card sized bottles opens to the pick and set list were perfect editions to my little collection.
